Indication for use:
Herpes lesions of the skin and external mucous membranes (herpes of the lips, external genitalia) caused by herpes simplex type 1 and 2, Varicella zoster virus, primary and recurrent, herpes lesions in patients with immunodeficiency.

Pharmacokinetics
When used externally, it is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation and has no systemic effects. When applying the ointment to the affected area of the skin, a therapeutic concentration of the drug is created in it, which is maintained at a constant level for at least 5 hours.

Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics. Purine nucleoside of acyclovir deoxyguanidinide - an analog of the DNA component. Particularly effective against herpes and cold sores. The similarity in the structures of acyclovir and deoxyguanidinide makes it possible for acyclovir to interact with viral enzymes, leading to the cessation of virus replication. After acyclovir enters the herpes-infected cell, the virus is released under the influence of virus-secreted thymidine kinase. Acyclovir-triphosphate has virtually no effect on the replication of host (human) cell DNA.

Acyclovir prevents the development of new elements of the rash during herpes, reduces the possibility of the skin dissemination and visceral complications, accelerates the formation of the crust, relieves pain in the acute phase of drowsiness.

Overdose
In areas of prolonged use of the ointment are possible: erythema, peeling, burning sensation, burns, which pass soon after discontinuation of the drug.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to herpesvirus, with similar symptoms in infectious diseases but caused by other causes. The drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation (lactation is discontinued during treatment). In children under 3 months of age.

Method of use and dosage

Only used externally! It is recommended to use rubber gloves or a thong to prevent the spread of infection. Initiation of treatment is recommended at the first signs of herpes infection.

The ointment is applied to the damaged skin and external mucous membranes. Before applying the ointment it is necessary to wash the damaged surface with soap and dry it well. The ointment is applied in a thin layer by calculation (in adults): 1.25 cm line of ointment is applied 25 cm 2 to the damaged area 4-5 times a day and rubbed with light movements for 1 minute. In children aged 3 months to 12 years, the ointment is applied in a thin layer at the rate of acyclovir 250 mg / m2 body surface area.

The ointment is also applied to the adjacent sections of the damaged surface.

The ointment should be used regularly. In case of skipping the next application, it is not necessary to double the dose during further use of the drug. It is recommended to undergo a full course of treatment - 10 days, even if the symptoms of the disease pass earlier than this period.

In the absence of effect when used externally, it is recommended to prescribe the drug in the form of an oral tablet (the doctor decides in each case).
